Rogue Trader (Rogue Trader - 1999)

Film Summary: The film is based on the true story of "Nick Leeson", an ambitious and intelligent employee sent by British Barings Bank to manage trading operations in Singapore. There, due to absent oversight, Leeson begins conducting secret and unauthorized speculation to cover his accumulating losses, which ends in disaster leading to the complete bankruptcy of the bank (which dates back more than 200 years) because of him alone.

The Economic Insight: The film presents a glaring case study of "Operational Risk" (Operational Risk) and the consequences of the absence of effective internal control systems and audits in large financial institutions. It also illustrates the trader's psychology when falling into the "Loss Aversion" (Loss Aversion) trap, where the fear of failure pushes the individual to take catastrophic and miscalculated risks that exceed the entity's capital.
