Greed (2019)
Film Summary: A satirical film centered on a narcissistic British billionaire in the fashion retail sector (indirectly inspired by real figures in the British market), preparing to hold an extravagant and costly birthday party on one of the Greek islands to polish his public image, while facing scandals related to tax evasion and labor exploitation in the developing world.
Economic Insight: The film addresses the dark side of "Globalization" and international supply chains. It reveals how fast fashion companies achieve astronomical profits through what is called "Wage Arbitrage"; that is, exploiting extremely cheap labor in developing countries under inhumane working conditions, while using "Tax Haven" mechanisms to evade taxes in Britain.
